Some goals I have
Here are some 2008 goals I have (hopefully I can accomplish most of them)
1. Read a book every two weeks. (28 total) I’ve been on a little reading lull lately and now I’m feeling like I want to get back into reading.
2. Lose 15 pounds. This is a typical goal for most people but I am totally annoyed at how much I weigh. Since being married I’ve gained more than 50 pounds and feel like a big, out of shape 31 year old. Watching one of my favorite shows (BIGGEST LOSER) has motivated me to have a better, healthier lifestyle. This does not mean I’m giving up Tim Hortons English Tofee’s, but it does mean I’ll have to cut down. PLUS, there’s a Goodlife Fitness being built RIGHT BESIDE the church and now I have NO excuse not to work out – do you think they have “out of weight clergy” discount? Maybe I can work a deal out (you know I’ll try)
3. Take my wife on a date a month. I know this doesn’t sound like a lot but I’ve found that we rarely went out on our own this past year. She hasn’t complained at all but she needs to know that no matter how little money we have – she deserves to feel like she’s the most important person in my life. You can’t afford not to date your spouse
4. Start my masters program (provided I can find some funds) I haven’t taken a class for 4 years now and feel like I should start up again this year. I’m looking at some grants – if this happens then I’ll begin. Now I need to find a school and a program.
5. One aspect of my life that I miss from youth ministry is the chance to spend quality time with people who are wanting to be “shaped” (mentored). I would like to pour what little wisdom I have into some men who are wanting to be mentored. I don’t know who and I don’t know how – but it’s a goal.
There are other personal goals I have (some are a little too personal – I’ll get completely vulnerable soon – I promise). I continue to want to have better devotional times and prayer times. I want to continue to become the best pastor that I can be. I am continually praying for a passion for those who don’t know Christ and an ability to build relationships (and the dedication to). I also want to be the best steward that I can be.
There you go. Now I have told you and now I need to accomplish these. Thanks

It is great you are looking to start your Master’s. If you are interested in some insights into strengths of programs/schools/etc, I have a good handle on some of that now and would love to pass on some of my experience. If your interested, drop me a call or email.

Great goals Brad! I too have a covenant calling (http://iamjustwondering.net/2008/01/05/living-within-a-covenant-who-am-i/)! I am intrigued by your desire for a Masters Degree. I am actually currently participating in a 6 month endeavor starting this January 25th of exploring a Missional Training Network which is being held here in Calgary. Its fee is HIGHLY reasonable too!
Cam Roxbrough comes out once a month for a day of training along with other names such as Anthony Brown, Eddie Gibbs, Alan Hirsch and others. I would love it if you wanted to come along with me. They also are talking about starting a Masters program within the framework of Missional Theology. You might want to check out their website: http://www.mtnetwork.ca/.
If you are interested let me know tomorrow in church or phone/email me. Norm or the others have my # & address.

Great to see you have realistic goals for 2008; but don’t get discouraged if you can’t /don’t complete them all. I believe the monthly date is very important, especially since there will be three little ones soon. Your Mom and I have some goals as well. Keep us posted on how you do.
